Offshore Report for Friday, August 24, 2007

Report posted by Capt. Lindsay Fuller of the June Bug on 8/28/06

On Friday, August 24, 2007 June Bug fished a party of Jim and John Hancock, Kevin Kennedy, Ross Felten, with Capt. Michael Yocco along on a busman's holiday. We left a little late due to one nameless party who thought we were fishing on Saturday instead of Friday but we finally cleared the Inlet around 1 a.m.

We went to the Toms and started fishing around 5:15 about 3 miles inshore from the 100 fathom tip. No sooner than Mate Dante Soriente had the lines in the water but the Yellowfins were swirling around. We had 3 in the boat in a flash. A little later, the same thing happened with a bunch of Longfin Albacore. It was a fast start to the day.

A little later in the morning we had a flurry of White Marlin and Kevin Kennedy tagged and released a BIG one. This fish was well over 70 pounds. A couple of hours later, John Hancock tagged and released a smaller White Marlin.

A Mahi finished off the catching for the day but the fishing day was yet to end. About an hour before quitting time, a HUGE Blue Marlin hit a naked Ballyhoo, hooked up, and screamed line off a narrow 50 Penn. In about 30 seconds, the line was down to only a few wraps by the time we were able to give chase. The fish swam a big figure 8 and ended back under the boat still going a mile a minute. The line billowed up under the boat and a prop blade cut it off. Talk about excitement! The whole thing took less than a minute.

We have openings for Labor Day weekend for Day or Overnight Offshore trips. Call me on my cell at 609-685-27839 to discuss.
