Report posted by Capt. Lindsay Fuller of the June Bug on 8/21/09 A great family fishing day. Joe brought his two boys, his Uncle Sal, and his niece. We picked up as many Taylor Blues as the party wanted just north of the Inlet mouth. There were Spanish Mackeral jumping too but we did not land any of those. The fish loved Bud's Birds and small Clark Spoons. After catching 20 to 25 little Blues, we went looking for Croakers. None were found so we went to the Atomic Lump and started Fluking. We caught a lot of Fluke but Uncle Sal caught the only keeper. 18.0001". All of the Fluke were caught on Wide Gap hooks, mostly 2/0. These hooks are similar to circle hooks and usually hook Fluke behind the bone in the top of their jaws. We only had a single Fluke all day that was bleeding at all. The weather was super as were the sea conditions. However, when we got to the oceal around 7:30, the ocean was dead flat. About 10:30, the swells from Hurricane Bill started. When we headed for home, there was about a 4' swell. All in all, a great day on the ocean. |
