Dear Fishing Friends:

"June Bug" spent the winter at Spencer Yachts in Wanchese, NC getting some upgrades and minor maintenance completed. Her Captain, me, also got some minor maintenance this winter in that I had my left hip replaced. I was walking the day after the procedure and, as I write this message, have recovered well. I will be ready for an exciting fishing season in New Jersey starting the middle of June.

"June Bug" will have new mates this season as our old mates have graduated college and have "real" jobs. Capt. Michael Yocco, our First Mate for several years, is now an Analyst with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in their Manhattan Real Estate Finance Division. PWC has a great employee.

Last year's fishing was tremendous when I was able to go. Inshore and Offshore fishing were well above average and we have every reason to believe that this year will be even better. There is a huge warm water eddy running from Cape Cod down below the Lindenkohl Canyon between the 100 and 1,000 fathom lines that can't be believed. The water temps in the eddy range from 74 to 78 and the eddy is adjacent to 48 degree inshore water. What a temperature break. The eddy is full of smaller Yellowfin tuna. Hopefully, the eddy will stay around for some time.

Think ahead about dates that you'd like to make your charter trips. Mid-week trips are the way to go if you can arrange the time. Fishing on the weekends has a lot more pressure associated with it from the additional boats out then. Seriously try to work in a few weekday offshore trips this year. You won't be disappointed.

Fishing at Oregon Inlet was decent this winter especially for BIG stripers. It all depends on the weather. The fish are generally in 25 to 30 feet of water along the beaches but we do have to get out the inlet to get on them. The fish ranged from 30 to 50 pounds.

The spring season at Oregon Inlet has large catches of Yellowfin along with billfish and substantial catches of big wahoo, large king mackerel, and the occasional cobia. Mahi mahi are more than numerous. We've had days when we kept 40 Mahi all over 20 pounds.

If you want to get in on the fine fishing action, give us a call to discuss available dates. Remember that we give 5% discounts for membership in International Game Fish Association, Jersey Coast Anglers Association, Recreational Fishing Alliance, National Coalition for Marine Conservation, or The Billfish Foundation. We also provide the same discount to members of any state or local police, fire, or EMS department as well as for active and reserve military members.

Give us a call on our cell phone at 609-685-2839. You can also e-mail us at JuneBug041@aol.com to ask about available fishing dates. Our 2006 rates will be the same as in 2005 but we do unfortunately have a fuel surcharge. Send a deposit now and you can pick your date later. "June Bug" should be back fishing in New Jersey the weekend after of Memorial Day, 2006 at the latest.

Check our website at www.Fish-JuneBug.com for information about "June Bug" and to read fishing reports.

I make presentations at organization meetings from time to time. I'd be glad to come to your organization at no charge to make a presentation on salt-water fishing and salt-water fishing methods. Call me to discuss dates and subjects well in advance of your meeting so that I have time to prepare.

WE HAVE OUR NEW "JUNE BUG" T-SHIRTS! Regardless of the pricing on our website, for people on our mailing list or who read this newsletter, the price is $12 each including shipping. Let us know your 1st and 2nd color choice and size preference when you send your check payable to SouthEast Sportfishing, Inc. Enclose your name, address, phone number, shirt size, and 1st and 2nd color preferences, your e-mail address, and your check with your order. The shirts are available in sizes Small to 3X. We have four (4) colors available: White, Yellow, Light Blue, and Navy. Provide 2 color choices with your order as shirts are available based on our inventory.

The National Marine Fisheries Service continues to make a major mess of fisheries management. Even though NMFS admits that the data concerning the catch of Bluefin tuna is faulty at best, they have yet to decide whether there will be a school sized Bluefin fishery this season. Their data collection of the catches of every other species is equally poor. Charter boats are required to send in Trip reports on each trip run yet NMFS does not even read those reports.

NMFS is opening hearings to open the Exclusive Economic Zone of the US to commercial fishing for Striped Bass. This will be a disaster for this species if the feds allow this to happen. Write to your Congressman and tell him/her that you do NOT want the EEZ opened for commercial fishing for Stripers.

Check your calendar and call today to check dates and availability. Let's catch some fish together in 2006!

See you soon. Summer will be here shortly!

Tight lines!
