This past Sunday, June Bug took Patrick Zavacky, His father Jim, his uncle Steve, and his friend Carl to the Lindenkohl Canyon.  We started fishing about 4:30 a.m. about 3 miles inshore of the 100 fathom Tip.  Quite a few boats had overnighted in the Lindy and there were lights all over.

No action until about 7 a.m. when a pod of nice Yellowfins crashed our baits.  5 lines went down and 2 stayed hooked.  Carl managed to lose his at the boat but Steve landed a very nice fish.

As we moved around the Canyon, there were more whales than we have seen in one trip in over 20 years.  Big ones and lots of them.  We could not find our marine mammal book but they were not humpbacks, finbacks, or greys.  Some had little ones in tow.  There were also hundreds of small pilot whales and thousands of Harbor Porpoise.  With all of the whales and such around, we would think that there were plenty of tuna too.  No, they seemed to only be in pods.  Some boats would get 2 or 3 pods up during the day and other boats only had one pod or none.

We were back at the spot where we had caught the one Yellowfin around 11 a.m. and a single fish crashed a ballyhoo bait.  Carl was given a second chance on this smaller fish but again blew it in a concerted effort at the boat.  Carl needs to stop horsing fish and pay attention to the crew's coaching if he wants to get fish in the boat.

Oh well, it was still a wonderful day on the ocean.

Let's go fishing!  Dates are available.  Call me at 609-685-2839 or e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to discuss dates.
